With experience from work on 3 continents, Tomas Gustafsson has truly moved away from the settled farming life of his grand parents. His childhood dream was to fly freely through outer space surrounded by a sea of stars and his life may be seen as a small reach for the stars to realize some of his dreams.
Born on November 28, 1967, in Vara, Sweden Tomas Gustafsson, as the only child, spend a lot of time with his grandparent - especially on the farm of Ingrid and Anders. There weren’t many academic role models while Tomas was growing up, but he didn’t let that stop her from achieving his goals. After doing his military duty and working as a carpenter, he continued to develop his interest in math and physics. He earned a Masters degrees in Engineering Physics at Uppsala University. No obstacle seems too great for Tomas to overcome.
Tomas Gustafssons' accomplishments did not end there. In 1997, he joined the Swedish polar program to work for the AMANDA project to work as a hot water driller at the South Pole, Antarctica.
Today he encourages all people to study the sciences and reach for the stars. Tomas would love to be an example that teaches all to follow your dreams, no matter how great!
